My approach to Photography

...is probably no different today to my teenage years when I had an insatiable appetite to capture on film. Now some 30 years on and all that is photographic has moved on with different technologies making the capture so convenient and the publication so immediate.

My photographs have been used in various magazines and publications including 'The Times newspaper', 'The Daily Mail', 'The Countryman' and Various 'Met Office' Publications. Cover Photographs of books by Wiley publications and many more.

It's no secret to anybody who has been bitten by the photography bug that it is mainly all about light. We all have our own ideas about composition and the hope that the viewing audience will agree. For me, it's early morning and late evening 'golden hours' when the sun takes on amazing colours and hues and the low angle gives the landscape shadows and structure. Sometimes just being at a location is not enough and careful choices have to be made for timing and weather, but when it pays off, it's well worth the effort !

Long exposure night shots of water in Moonlight can produce a completely different look on a familiar view (Caban Coch dam wall on panel above) the reflected moonlight has a golden colour compared to the crashing water on the dam wall behind illuminated by the cold light of dawn. Detail in shadows become less of a problem as the scene takens on a much smoother almost tranquil feel. There will be more work in progress from the Elan Valley in the next few months
